In as thrilling a finish as had been seen in some time on the PBA tour, young Larry Lichstein made it to the winner's circle in the rich and important Ebonite Open, hosted at Frank Thatcher's Saratoga Lanes in San Jose, Calif. Going into the final frame against battle-hardened Dave Davis, Lichstein knew he had to strike to claim the $10,000 first place prize. And strike he did, to edge Davis by 234-227. All five finalists were lefthanders-Skee Foremsky, Earl Anthony and Johnny Petraglia joining Lichstein on the TV show-and, for the first time in PBA history, all 16 finalists threw from the left side. The first match saw Anthony kayo Petraglia, 265-205. Then, Foremsky advanced with a 223-195 win over Anthony. Lichstein dropped Foremsky, 203-194, to gain the final match.
