Four veterans of the Professional Bowlers Association wars were no match for young and gifted George Pappas in the $70,000 Miller High Life Open in Milwaukee. Pappas tossed games of 233, 213, 245 and 203 as he ran through Johnny Guenther (202), Jack Biondolillo (156), Ed Bourdase (221) and Bobby Cooper (199) in the $10,000 windup to this very successful renewal of an important PBA event. Against Cooper, who was looking for his first PBA conquest-the one that would get him into the Firestone Tournament of Champions-Pappas opened with a split and quickly fell behind when Cooper got a turkey. When the latter failed to convert the 2-4-5-8 leave, it made the match close and after Bobby doubled in the 10th frame it forced Pappas to come up with a strike on his final shot. History tells us that little George did, capping an 894 series, for an average of over 223.
