After what had seemed an interminable wait-actually it was a year and a half-Jim Stefanich finally racked up a victory in a PBA competition, and he did it at the expense of one of bowling's all-time greats, Dick Weber. The final count in the Ebonite Open was 248-223, which should tell what kind of a finale it was. Each star had won 11 of 16 match games and, in the position round windup the night before, Weber's 211-202 triumph vaulted him over Steffie into the top-seeded spot on TV. To gain the $8,000 title bout, Jim had to overcome Jim Godman, who had romped by 246-197 over Jimmy Mack and 276-194 over George Pappas. Godman was beaten, 223-194, putting Stefanich into the finals where his 248 was more than enough. Ron Lisher, world's record-holder for a six-game series, rolled a 300 game as did Dick Ritger, who finished sixth.
