Don Johnson of Kokomo, Ind. found bowling in Hawaii much to his liking as he finished the 1969 season with a triumph in the Hawaiian Invitational. Co-sponsored by Smallcomb Enterprises, the tournament drew eight of the PBA's top-ranking players to the Islands for their first visit there, and it was Dave Soutar of Gilroy, Cal. who led the 40-games of match play and gained the top-seeded spot in the televised finals. In the championship game Johnson finished with four straight strikes to top Soutar, 232-213, and win the $2,000 first prize. It was Johnson's third win of the year. THE FINALS
PLAYOFF RESULTS: Hardwick defeated Glenn Allison, 223-177; Davis defeated Hardwick, 201-192; Johnson defeated Davis, 216-179; and in the championship game Johnson defeated Soutar, 232-213.
