Butch Bags Newark

BUTCH GEARHART, streaking to seven straight wins in the match-game finals, posted his third career PBA victory at Newark, Ohio. Gearhart locked it up in the 15th game when he converted a tough 1-3-7 leave in the ninth frame for a 224-214 victory over Johnny Petraglia.

The victory gave him a 102-pin lead going into the position round, which also was against Petraglia. Petraglia won that one, 232-213, but it was for naught.
