Harahan Conquers Thumb
Tim Harahan shook off a swollen thumb to capture his second PBA championship in the $30,000 Tucson-Squirt Open.
Harahan, who was forced out of the previous week's tourney by a bad thumb after six games, totalled 9,190 for the 40-game grind. This included 400 bonus pins he picked up for winning eight of his 16 match games in the finals. Ralph Engan was second with 9,036.
Don Russell, 21-year-old collegian from San Diego, supplied the big thrill of the tourney when he rolled his first 300 game.
24-Game Qualifying Leader-Harahan 5257; 16th Low-Tountas 4923. $100 to Don Russell for 300 game. Pro-Am Cashers--$50--Wally Wagner, Billy Hardwick, Keith Wiltse, Ed Bourdase, Eddy Patterson, Dick Ritger.
