Hardwick Cracks Drought

After a drought of almost two years, Billy Hardwick came back with a flourish to capture the $27,500 Kokomo Open by 474 pins.

It was the ninth PBA title for the 1964 "Bowler of the Year" and the $3,000 first-place check raised his earnings for 1967 to $17,735.

The issue never was in doubt as Hardwick qualifier off with a 1,366 six-game series in his opening round, led the 24-game qualifier with a 5,395 count and won 12 of his 16 games in.the finals.

Joe Joseph, the veteran from Lansing, Mich., gave the fans a thrill when he moved from 15th into second place in the final standings. Joseph averaged 220 for his Sunday finals.
