Jim Godman, of Hayward, Calif. withstood a closing rush by Ted Hoffman to notch his second tournament triumph in the Waukegan Open. The Sporting News Rookie of the Year in 1965 went into the championship game with a 40-pin edge on Hoffman. And, he pumped in four opening strikes to take the wind out of Hoff man's sails, 212-167. After Carmen Salvino had fronted the field through the first 24 games, the big Chicagoan won only seven of his 16 matches in Sunday's finals and slipped to sixth place. Hoffman had moved into the position round from 13th place. 40 GAMES | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Jim Godman, Hayward, Calif. | | 8649 | | 600 | | 9149 | | $3,000 | | 2 | | Dave Soutar, Detroit, Mich. | | 8614 | | 600 | | 9114 | | 1,600 | | 3 | | Tommy Tuttle, King, N.C. | | 8694 | | 500 | | 9094 | | 1,200 | | 4 | | Billy Golembiewski, Detroit, Mich. | | 8631 | | 600 | | 9031 | | 1,160 | | 6 | | Ted Hoffman, Philadelphia, Pa. | | 8639 | | 375 | | 9014 | | 1,100 | | 6 | | Carmen Salvino, Chicago, Ill. | | 8643 | | 350 | | 8993 | | 1,060 | | 7 | | Bob Strampe, Detroit, Mich. | | 8612 | | 450 | | 8962 | | 1,000 | | 8 | | Dick Weber, St. Louis, Mo. | | 8692 | | 350 | | 8942 | | 960 | | 9 | | Curt Schmidt, Ft.
