Don Johnson, of Kokomo, Ind. fired 1478 in his opening six-game block and then coasted home, 279 pins ahead of his nearest rival in the Brockton Open.

It was Johnson's second victory of the year and fourth overall. He won the Summer opener in Seattle.

The victory gave the "Kokomo Kid" $3,000 and hiked his earnings for the year to $28,995. This put him less than $5,000 behind leading money winner Jim Stefanich.
