Baca Best At Edison
Although Sam Baca of Hayward, Calif., won the Ebonite Edison, N.J., tournament, Frank Esposito and the eastern region had to share honors as they signed 641 amateurs into the pro am event.
Baca defeated Bob Strampe, 206-186, in the title match. Before that, Nelson Burton, Jr., had eliminated Mike Durbin, 247-167, and Carmen Salvino, 227-208, before he himself went down the drain before Strampe, 204-199.
Espisito, the PBA's national regional chairman, was the guiding light in handling the pro am and the 641 figure broke all standing PBA records in this department.
