St. John Marks 6th At Toledo
Jim St. John, of San Jose, Calif., jammed three strikes in the tenth frame against Jimmy Certain and then socked Johnny Guenther, 222-149, to rack up his sixth PBA championship at Toledo.
After Certain had locked out Pete Tountas, 236-199, and Tony Marine, 229-166, he ran into St. John. Trailing 201-194 going into the last frame, St. John threw three straight and Certain left a seven pin as the San Jose pro won, 224-219.
The title match was no contest as Guenther ran into split trouble and St. John coasted home.
