Ralph Engan of Monsey, N.Y., a five-year veteran on the PBA tour, finally knocked off his first championship in the $31,000 Camden Open. The tourney was a thriller which was decided in the last frame of the final game. Engan went into the tilt with a 41-pin lead over Fred Lening. Engan won the game, 182-171, and but for a split by Lening in that last frame, the title would have gone the other way. Nelson Burton Jr. led the 24-game qualifier with a 5077 total but slipped to fifth when he won but half of his games in the 16-game finals. | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Ralph Engan, Monsey, N.Y. | | 8272 | | 675 | | 8947 | | $3,000 | | 2 | | Fred Lening, Fairless Hills, Pa. | | 8397 | | 450 | | 8847 | | 1,500 | | 3 | | Tommy Tuttle, King, N.C. | | 8296 | | 560 | | 8846 | | 1,200 | | 4 | | Billy Hardwick.
