Engan Grabs First PBA Title
Ralph Engan of Monsey, N.Y., a five-year veteran on the PBA tour, finally knocked off his first championship in the $31,000 Camden Open.
The tourney was a thriller which was decided in the last frame of the final game. Engan went into the tilt with a 41-pin lead over Fred Lening. Engan won the game, 182-171, and but for a split by Lening in that last frame, the title would have gone the other way.
Nelson Burton Jr. led the 24-game qualifier with a 5077 total but slipped to fifth when he won but half of his games in the 16-game finals.
