Asher Scores Home Town Win

Barry Asher, 19-year-old professional, triumphantly returned to his home stamping grounds by winning the $29,000 Southern California Open at Encino (Calif.) Bowl.

The Santa Monica youngster won the tourney in the last two games. He beat Wayne Zahn, 289-184, to take the lead, and then polished off Jim St. John, 192-185, to wrap it up.

It was the first tournament victory for the shy Santa Ana Junior College freshman who immediately banked the $3,000 check and tagged it: For education only.
