Rhoda Roars In St. Paul
Gene Rhoda needed all the strength in his 6-2, 225-pound frame to overcome an influenza epidemic and the 128-man field in the $37,000 St. Paul Open.
The flu bug bedded 22 of the starters as Rhoda charged through the first 40 games with a leading 9160 total and then bombed Bob Strampe, 234-190, in the televised finals.
It was the second PBA crown of the year for Rhoda (he won at Charlotte, N.C.) and fourth overall.
