Weber Adds 17th Title At Fresno
Dick Weber was up to his old tricks (winning PBA championships) in the $35,000 Fresno, Calif., Open. He captured his 17th crown by defeating Johnny Guenther, 225-203, in the televised finale. Weber was seeded into the big match after leading the 40-game qualifier with a 9141 total. This included 550 bonus pins he received for winning 11 of his 16 semifinal games. Guenther worked his way into the title tiff on total pins after he, Larry Laub and Mickey Higham had traded victories in the televised matches. This was Weber's second PBA championship (he won the Denver test earlier) and third major tournament victory of the year. The 125-pound St. Louisan copped his fourth All Star in five years in January. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
