Strampe Decisions McCoy
Bob Strampe and Jerry McCoy traded victories in the last two games of the tournament but it was Strampe's which counted most. And, the 1964 "Bowler of the Year" won his second PBA test of 1965 in the Northern California Open at San Francisco.
After McCoy led the 24-game qualifier, Strampe took command in the finals. But in the 15th game, McCoy ground out a 216-191 decision to take an 11-pin margin into the finale. Strampe won the wrapup game and the tourney with a 195-179 victory.
Strampe's pin-count for the 40-game eliminations was 9131. This included 500 bonus pins for his winning ten and losing six match games. McCoy wrapped it up with 9076 and Sam Baca was third with 9027.
