19-Year-Old Passes First Test

Mike McGrath, 19-year-old rookie from El Cerrito, Calif., did the impossible. . . He won the first PBA tournament he entered.

The slim lefthander who had been a PBA member only two months before his first start in the Portland, Ore. tourney, finished 158 pins ahead of Pete Tountas.

"I sure hope this doesn't spoil me," the youngster said as he pocketed the $3,000 check. "I certainly didn't expect to win in my first one."
