Burton Corners Louisville Title
Nelson Burton Jr., son of the famous St. Louisan in the Hall of Fame, was a 203-pin winner in the Professional Bowlers Association $24,500 Louisville Open.
Young Nellie, who cut his bowling teeth in his dad's establishment, counted 9510 pins over the 40-game tournament route. This included 650 bonus pins for winning 13 games in the finals.
This was the 22-year-old youngster's first major title and he had it "cornered" after finishing second to Dennis Taylor's 5393 leading qualifying score. Nellie threw from the first board all the way and it paid off handsomely. Burton was the gallery favorite after rolling a 300 game in his last qualifying block.
