Zahn Big At Lodi
Wayne Zahn, of Atlanta shared the spotlight with a record-setting field as he won the 13th and final tournament on the Professional Bowlers Association Winter tour at Lodi, Calif. Zahn knocked off another 23-year-old, Billy Hardwick of San Mateo, Calif., 196-179, to pocket the $4,000 after two PBA scoring records had gone down the drain in the qualifier. Carmen Salvino, who finished 16th at the end of 24 games, knocked dozen 5227 pins to break the old mark of 5200 set at St. Paul in 1962. The 24th-place finisher, Fred Krusher, totalled 5163 for 24 games to lose the old record of 5121, also set in St. Paul. In addition to Hardwick, Zahn's other playmates in the four-man televised finals included Bill Bunetta and Mike Chiuchiolo. Zahn led at the end of 40 games and sat on the sidelines while Hardwick defeated Chiuchiolo, 225-182, and Bunetta, 239-214. Bunetta rapped Chiuchiolo, 237-210. Johnny Nickell and Bud Horn added to the high-scoring affair by shooting 300 games in the qualifier. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
