Single Pin Win . . . Allen
Dick Weber was head and shoulders above anyone in the Salt Lake City Open but he failed to win his 12th PBA tournament by one pin. Bill Allen of Orlando, Fla. tagged his third title of the year when Weber left a 6-7 split on his last pitch of the tourney. The final count read: Allen 9046, Weber 9045. Although Weber knocked down 8545 pins over the 40-game tournament route, the St. Louis mite won only 10 of his 16 games in the match game finals. Allen dropped 8396 pins but won 13 of his matches. The two met in the last game of the tournament and were locked in a strike battle. The Florida lefthander struck out in the last frame to finish with 225. Weber came up for. his last chance needing two strikes and a nine-pin count to tie. Dick buried his first two balls in the 1-3 pocket.
