Smith No. 1 After Spokane
Harry Smith of Baltimore was the new "money champ" after knocking off the first prize of $3,000 in the $20,400 Spokane Open.
Smith was in command from the third game of the finals to the windup. He finished with a count of 8953 to Tom Hennessey's 8803. The champ's margin included 600 bonus pins for winning 12 of his 16 matches in the finals.
This was Smith's third PBA title of the year. Previously he had won at Akron, O. and Montreal.
The Baltimore bomber took over the money lead from Andy Marzich, who had led from the first tournament in 1963. Smith's leading total measured $29,707 to Marzich's $29,248. Jim St. John was in third place with $26,185, Earl Johnson was fourth with $25,303 and Dick Weber had $25,083.
