Biondolillo Is Tucson King
Jack Biondolillo's last name sounds like a bird call and it was sweet music to the Houston, Tex., pro when the announcer proclaimed "BEE-ON-DOLILLO" winner of the $20,400 Tucson Open. Although there were only 46 pins difference between Jack and runnerup Ray Bluth at the finish (9140-9094), the issue never was in doubt after the ninth round of the finals. This was the round Biondolillo defeated Bluth and took the lead. Going into the position round, the Texan held a 164-pin lead over Bluth. Jack won 10 and tied one in the finals as he marked his second PBA tournament victory of the year. Earlier-he had won the Birmingham Open. Jimmy Certain of Dallas led the 24-game qualifier and then dropped to fifth in the finals. Andy Marzich added an eighth-place check of $850 to his leading moneywinning standings to run his total to $26,998, Jim St. John was still second with $24,160, Harry Smith held third with $23,327, Dick Weber was fourth at $22,053 and Earl Johnson had $19,507. 40 GAMES
