St. John "Holds" Fort Smith
It was "When the Saints Go Marching By" in the $18,000 Fort Smith, Ark. Open at Holiday Lanes. For Chicago's Jim St. John must have seemed like more than one in racking up his second PBA tournament victory in three weeks. There never was a question on the outcome as Little Jim took the lead at the crack of the gun and stayed there. At the end of the 24-qualifying games, St. John had built a 177-pin lead over Billy Welu with a score of 5193. In the finals, Jim won 13 of his 16 matches. The Chicagoan's final tally read 9265 for the 40 games. This included the 650 bonus pins for winning the 13 games. Second-place Andy Marzich was 481 pins behind at the end. Marzich still treaded the pack in the money-earning department with $24,818. Dick Weber was second with $22,053, Harry Smith had $21,052 and St. John was fourth at $20,875. 40 GAMES
