Bohn Wins In Motor City
In the ABC Masters, Parker Bohn III was perfect, but it wasn't enough to win the title at the American Bowling Congress Masters. At Taylor Lanes, Bohn was slightly less than perfect, but the result was a victory in the Greater Detroit Open. Bohn, Jackson, N.J., defeated tournament leader Doug Kent, 290-248, to earn his second title of the year and 15th of his career. The win also garnered Bohn $16,000, but had he managed to carry the 7-pin in the first frame, he would have collected a $1 million bonus for rolling a perfect game, courtesy of the Showboat Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center in Las Vegas. Bohn rolled a 300 game In the opening match of the ABC Masters (worth a $10,000 bonus), but then lost the title match to Mike Aulby. "If you would have told me a month ago that I would make three out of four telecasts, shoot 300 and then shoot 290 to win a title, I would have sold you were crazy," Bohn said. "But, I guess you could say I've fallen into something. I'm bowling good and I have a lot of confidence. I'll ride this as long as I can." Kent, who secured the top seed Friday night by detesting Bohn in the position round match, performed well in the title match. He struck eight times and converted three single-pin spares in frames two, eight and 10. But Bohn was masterful. After converting the aforementioned 7-pin for a spare in frame one, he reeled off 11 consecutive strikes to capture the victory. Kent, Canandaigua, N.Y., earned the second-place check for $8,500. Bohn was asked about shooting games of 290 and 300 against the Brunswick Pro Pins, which are four ounces heavier per pin than regular pins. Bohn said, "if you throw the ball good, any pins will fall. I don't care If It weighs 10 pounds." CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
