Bayer/Brunswick Touring Players Championship

$200,000 BAYER/BRUNSWICK TOURING PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
Funfest Entertainment Center, Pittsburgh, PA, Nov 8-12, 1997

Hoskins Gives Field Headaches; Wins Bayer/Brunswick T.P.C.

The crowd was pumped up, Steve Hoskins was pumped up, and that spelled trouble for Danny Wiseman.

Hoskins won his sixth PBA title and second in five weeks when he knocked off tournament leader Wiseman, 233-184, to collect his first "major" and $40,000. Hoskins' performance came before a capacity crowd at FunFest Entertainment Center that never stopped cheering, even while the bowlers were making their approach.

"The PBA told us before the telecast they were going to keep the crowd cheering the entire time," said Hoskins. "The crowd was incredible. They kept me pumped up and it certainly helped me perform better."

Hoskins started the title match with the first four strikes and never trailed. Wiseman kept within striking distance through the first six frames, but had only struck twice. In frame seven, Wiseman failed to convert the 4-9 split and Hoskins, who had converted spares in frames five through eight, wrapped the match up with a strike in the ninth. The win came just weeks atter Hoskins had become just the 11th player in PBA history to roll a 300 game on TV on the way to a win in Rochester, N.Y.
