Criss Crosses Through Field For Title No. 2

Tim Criss captured the second title of his career and the second in four weeks in the PBA Greater Sebring Open at Kegel Bowling Center, defeating Steve Jaros, 238-225.

Criss, who also became the first titlist to come from the fifth seed in 1997, mowed down the field, defeating two unheralded pros and two of the hottest players on tour en route to pocketing $18,000.

"This tournament was such a baffle for me," Criss said. "At one point, I was actually minus for the tournament then I needed to strike out In the 10th frame during the position round just to make the show. I felt I was fortunate to make the telecast"Criss opened the ABC-telecast against local favorite Darin Hays. Criss then nailed his first eight balls for strikes, making the tough shot-making condition look easy.

"The first match definitely gave me confidence to make it the rest of the way," added Criss.

The title match saw tournament leader Steve Jaros competing In his fourth stepladder finals for the year and his second as the top seed. The Bolingbrook, III., resident was looking to snap a seven telecast losing streak, which remains alive.

The title match was an up-and-down affair but in the end, it was Jaros' open frame In the eighth that spelled doom. Criss shot a clean game with no opens and won the title.
