Parker Bohn, Jackson, N.J., won the Showboat Invitational in dramatic fashion over Walter Ray Williams Jr., with a 206-204 win. The victory earned Bohn $35,000 in his 13th PBA title of his career and his second in as many weeks. "Winning in back-to-back weeks is the mark of a great champion," said Bohn. "I would imagine a lot of guys who have won back-to-back are probably in the Hall of Fame right now." The title match came down to the last shot, but Bohn provided plenty of excitement before he ever got to Williams. Atter qualifying fourth, Bohn started the ABC-TV telecast with a 235-202 win over Weber, then dispatched Mike Miller, 245-189, in match two. He then came within one pin of a $10,000 perfect game bonus when a 6-pin stood on his final shot, leaving him with a 299-245 semifinal win over Steve Jaros. Williams, Stockton, Calif., was making his fourth consecutive telecast in tournaments he entered (he skipped the Oregon Open), and was trying to become the first player in 38 years to successfully defend a Showboat title. Williams had trouble with his pin carry as he converted no less than five single-pin spares in the first nine frames. He struck in his four other frames but did not have a double through the first nine frames. Bohn alternated spares and strikes through the first four frames, then had an open frame in the fifth after a 3-7 split. He made up for the open by throwing a three-bagger, then converted spares in the ninth and 10th before striking on his fill ball. Williams got up in his 10th frame needing a strike and then nine pins and a spare for a one-pin victory. He stuffed the first shot for the strike, but left the bucket on his next shot to give Bohn the win.
