Bohn Sits On Couch For AC-DelcoWin
Parker Bohn III considers roommate Jason Couch one of his best friends In the PBA. But when It comes to winning titles, Bohn shows little compassion. Bohn, Jackson, N.J., defeated Couch, 238-234, in the title match of the ACDelco Classic at Cal Bowl in Lakewood, Calif., to earn his 12th PBA title and his first win since the summer of 1995. The victory was worth $48,000 and bragging rights on Couch. The two have now met three times for titles, with Bohn winning twice. "It' s tough for me to bowl Jason because he Is like a brother to me;' said Bohn. "Besides, he led by so much this week and it's always unfortunate when you lose after leading the event by a lot. As happy as I am for myself, I also feel badly for Jason." Couch, Clermont, Fla., was in a class by himself once the event reached match play and ended up leading Bohn (who qualified second) by 536 pins. But none of that mattered once ABC-TV's cameras focused in for the championship round. The title match was close all the way. Couch started with three strikes, then spared in the fourth and struck again in frame five. Bohn managed only one strike in his first four frames, but converted single-pin spares in the other three frames. He then strung together three consecutive strikes In frames five through seven, converted the 7-pin for a spare in the eighth and struck in frame nine. Couch converted a difficult 2-4-6-10 split In frame six, but did not convert the 4-6-7 split In frame seven for the only open frame of the match. He proceeded to strike out to put the pressure back on Bohn. Bohn, finishing last, got up in the 10th needing a double and seven pins for the win. He calmly stuffed all three shots in the pocket to leave Couch with the second-place check for $25,000. The loss was especially discouraging for Couch because he wanted to win for his daughter Courtney, who was home celebrating her first birthday. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
