Look out Earl Anthony, Brian Voss is closing in on one of your records. Voss, a PBA Hall of Famer from Atlanta, defeated tournament leader Dave Wodka 246-191 in the title match of the PBA Oregon Open, Hollywood Bowl, Portland, Ore., to secure his 16th PBA title and $19,000. The win gave Voss at least one title in each of the last 10 years. Anthony holds the record of 14 consecutive years with a title. "This is the way I wanted to start the year," said Voss. "I still want to be player of the year out here and I want to be ranked No. 1. Title No. 16 and 10 years in a row is a good start." Voss' success in the title match was keyed by a great finish against Danny Wiseman in the semifinal match. Voss, who finished first, ended the match with four consecutive strikes to make Wiseman strike out in his 10th frame to force a roll-off. Wiseman left a 10-pin on his first ball, sending Voss to the final match. Voss said, "That match really gave me a lot of momentum going into the final match against Dave (Wodka). It wasn't just the fact that I struck out, it was the fact that I threw four really good shots on a pretty demanding condition. I felt good going into that last match." Wiseman, Baltimore, earned $6,000 for third. He opened the ESPN telecast by defeating Tommy Delutz Jr., 209-179. Delutz, Jamaica, N.Y., was making his first career telecast and pocketed $4,000 for fifth. Wiseman then defeated Bob Spaulding, 210-199, in match two.
