Wiseman Wins His Sixth PBA Title
Danny Wiseman beat four opponents en route to the Great Lakes Classic title and increased his television record to 21-5. Wiseman beat John Mazza, 232-791, in the title match at the Welsh Auditorium in downtown Grand Rapids, Mich. Wiseman also is 6-0 in title matches during his seven-year career. The win was also his second of the year in an arena. He captured the SpIitFire Spark Plug Open earlier this year at the Erie Civic Center. "This is the third time I've come from the bottom to win a title, and that's tough to do," said Wiseman. "However, it's a lot easier in an arena because the crowd really gets you pumped up." Wiseman, Baltimore Md., never trailed in the title match. Both players opened with spares before Mazza left the 4-6-7-8-10 split in the second frame. Wiseman put together strikes in the second through fifth frames to increase his lead to 46 midway through the game. He then cruised to his sixth title and the $17,500 first prize. Mazza took home $9,000 for second. Wiseman's .807 winning percentage on television is the best in PBA history. Mazza, Shelby Township, Mich., was making his second consecutive appearance in an arena setting. He finished fourth at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. Wiseman advanced to the title match after disposing of John Gant, 225-167, in the semifinal game. Gant, who won the Brunswick Johnny Petraglia Open earlier this year, won $5,500 for third. Wiseman's second win of the stepladder finals came against 11-time champion Parker Bohn III. Bohn opened with six strikes in a row before opening in the seventh frame. Wiseman rolled 10 strikes for a 267-245 win. Bohn, making his fourth appearance in an arena final, earned $4,500 for fourth. In the opening game, Wiseman rolled past Mike Scroggins, 259-205. Scroggins garnered $3,500 for fifth. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
