The sun continued to shine for Florida pros at ABC West Lanes, as Jason Couch of Clermont became the fourth successive Floridian to triumph at host ABC West Lanes, defeating Dave D'Entremont, 202-190, for the Bowlers Journal Classic title in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Top seeded, Couch earned $18,500 for his third PBA title and first since 1993. The 1992 PBA Rookie of the Year, Couch fell behind D'Entremont's opening double in the title game, but quickly recovered when third-seeded D'Entremont dumped his first ball of the fourth frame in the right-hand channel. After sparing, he then struck and opened in the sixth frame to trail Couch by 21 pins and never pulled closer until finishing with a four-bagger. Couch said, "Dave opened the door for me and I got more aggressive. I moved in from where I'd played all week, but found an oil line which worked. I had a great shot in practice before air time, and now I'm 3-0 as top seed. The important thing to remember as leading qualifier is to watch the earlier matches and figure out a strategy. The best advice I ever got was from my roommate, Parker Bohn III, who told me, 'The telecast is for the viewing audienceyou've already won the tournament."'The ESPN championship round began with Steve Hoskins defeating Joe Firpo of Lake Worth, Fla., 227-193, and then D'Entremont came on and sidelined Hoskins, 227-190. Next up was 1991 PBA Player of the Year David Ozio of Victor, Texas, who fell, 210-167. D'Entremont earned $9,500 as runner-up, Ozio took home $8,000, Hoskins, Tarpon Springs, Fla., collected $5,000 for fourth and Firpo $4,000.
