Duke Breaks Into Millionaire's Club; Wins 10th PBA Title

Norm Duke became the 16th member of PBA's exclusive "Millionaire's Club," and won his 10th title at the PBA Oregon Open at Hollywood Bowl in Portland. Fourth-seeded, Duke plowed past four opponents, including leading qualifier Justin Hromek, 230.193, for the $18,000 first prize.

Reigning IOF/PBA Player of the Year Duke, Edmond, Okla., spared, then added a four-bagger to jump out to a 44-pin lead after five frames. Hromek, Andover, Kan., never was able to mount a challenge, and had to settle for the $9,500 runnerup check.

"I've been trying to win here at Hollywood Bowl for five years," said Duke.

"I've had to wait nearly a year for my 10th title and now I've passed a million dollars in career earnings on the same day."

Duke continues to find Hollywood Bowl friendly confines, having qualified among the N finalists five successive years.

The ESPN telecast started with Duke bettering Steve Hoskins, Tarpon Springs, Fla., 252-195. Duke next sidelined Greg Kemp, Bryan, Texas, 217-158 and then Hugh Miller of Seattle, 202-194. Miller took home $6,000 for third place, Kemp earned $5,000 for fourth and Hoskins $4,000.
