Dave Husted became just the 36th player in PBA history to have captured 10 titles when he won the Inaugural $150,000 Sherwin-Williams Classic at Brunswick Ambassador Lanes. Leading qualifier Husted, Milwaukie, Ore., stopped fourthseeded George Branham III, Indianapolis, 279-238, for the $27,000 first prize. "This puts me In elite company," Husted exclaimed afterward. "Along with 10 titles I also have three 'majors', so I hope those who vote for the PBA Hall of Fame deem me worthy when I become eligible in 1996. This win also is important in that I need only to bowl 50 percent of the national tournaments to retain eligibility for the Tournament of Champions." 'Husted was perfect through eight frames and led by 51 pins at that point. The only question remaining was whether he would become the ninth player to toss a perfect game on the national tour, but he stumbled In his. ninth frame, then struck out. Branham earned $14,000 as runnerup. The ESPN telecast began with Branham defeating Mike Edwards of Oklahoma City, 257-201, and then first-time finalist Tim Criss of Bel Air, Md., 268-225. Branham's momentum continued against non-winner Don Moser, San Jose, Calif., 224-196, which propelled him into the title game as the crowd favorite. Ironically, Branham's wife, Jacquelyne, was awaiting a flight home to Indianapolis the night before when her husband looked to be out of contention for the final five, but George sent a messenger to retrieve her from the Cleveland airport when he marched to the fifth-seeded position. Moser took home $8,000 for third place, Criss earned a career high $8,500, for fourth and Edwards $5,000.
