Merit Mixed Doubles Championship
$200,000 MERIT MIXED DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Hilton Lanes, Reno, NV., Dec 2-5, 1993
Bohn/Sill Capture Merit Mixed Doubles
The final outcome of the $200,000 Merit Mixed Doubles Championship surprised no one as Parker Bohn III and Aleta Sill extended their dominance of the three earlier rounds to earn the $40,000 first prize at Reno Hilton Lanes. For Bohn, it was his 10th PBA victory and Sill earned her 19th Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour (LPBT) crown. This season-ending invitational event paired the top 24 point qualifiers from the PBA Tour and LPBT for 32 games of mixed doubles competition. The left-handed pairing of 14th-place qualifiers Bohn and Sill took control early in the tournament and ended 310 pins ahead of runners-up David Ozio, Vidor, Texas, and Tish Johnson, Panorama City, Calif,, who shared a $22,000 second-place payday. Bohn/Sill began 15-0 before dropping their first match to leading qualifiers and eventual fourth-place finishers Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Kim Couture. It was a somewhat frustrating finish for Williams, who was seeking a record-tying eighth PBA title on the year and fell short in his pursuit of the PBA single season earnings record. Ironically, Williams faced P BA President Mike Aulby in the final game of the tournament, aand Aulby protected his $298,237 total set in 1989 for at least another year. Third-place finishers Aulby, Indianapolis, and partner Jill Albrecht of Burlington, Wis., earned $16,000. Williams, Stockton, Calif., and Couture, of Titusville, Fla., split $12,000 and Williams' yearly total ends at $294,370. 32-GAME TOTALS
