$150,000 TOURING PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
Woodland Bowl, Indianapolis, IN, Oct 30-Nov 3, 1993

Jason Couch Earns "Major" TPC Win

Jason Couch proved he's suffering no sophomore slump as the reigning PBA Rookie of the Year defeated Parker Bohn III, 238214, to capture the $150,000 Touring Players Championship at Woodland Bowl. Couch's second PBA title and second of the year was a "major" and carries a three-year exemption into the General Tire Tournament of Champions, along with the $27,000 first prize.

Bohn took the early lead in the championship game until top-seeded Couch, Winter Garden, Fla., closed with seven strikes to deny his good friend and roommate his 10th PBA title. Third-seeded Bohn, Freehold, N.J., earned $14,000.

The ESPN-televised finals began with Joe Firpo defeating Joe Salvemini, Henderson, Nev., 206-201. Bohn then stepped in and stopped Firpo, Lake Worth, Fla., 224-203, and defending TPC champ Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela, 225-157.

Couch won his initial tour title in April at the Turns Classic and said he didn't know when, if ever, he might win again.

Walter Ray Williams Jr., the Tour's dominant performer this year, was denied an opportunity to gain a record-tying eighth PBA title when he finished eighth this week.
