Rich Abboud and Teata Semiz teamed to win the $150,000 Touring Pro/Senior Doubles Championship, with a 234-210 victory over Pete Weber and Tom Carbone at St. Clair Bowl. For Semiz it was his 10th PBA title (a record seventh on the Senior Tour), while Abboud won for the first time in his fifth year on the national tour. The duo took home the $30,000 first prize. In the championship game, hometown favorite Weber, St. Ann, Mo., was looking for his 21st PBA title, while Carbone, Arvada, Colo., was making his first television appearance. Weber/Carbone started with four consecutive strikes, while Abboud/Semiz countered with two spares and a four-bagger of their own. The crucial points in the match were the fifth through eighth frames when Carbone chopped the 2-4-5 spare in the fifth and Weber left the 4-6-7 split in the eighth, and the duo trailed by 14 pins. Abboud/Semiz stayed clean through the ninth with spares. Carbone rolled a strike in the ninth and Weber left a 10-pin on his first ball in the 10th. Needing a mark in the 10th, Abboud, who rolled 20 of 28 strikes during the four-game march to the title, struck out for the victory. In their quest for the championship, Abboud/Semiz sidelined Robert Gibbs, Abilene, Texas, and the 1993 leading money winner Walter Ray Williams Jr., Stockton, Calif., 223-218. The next victims were 1992 PBA Rookie of the Year, Jason Couch, Winter Garden, Fla., and his partner, Gary Dickinson, Edmond, Okla., who was making his senior debut. In a low-scoring affair, Abboud/Semiz prevailed, 176-169. In the semifinal game, Abboud/Semiz routed Gene Stus, Allen Park, Mich., and PBA President Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, 248187. Abboud/Semiz started with six consecutive strikes in advancing to the championship game.
