Jeff Lizzi took full advantage of his first appearance in A PBA championship round and held off Amleto Monacelli, 247-192, to win the $225,000 Brunswick Memorial World Open at Brunswick Deer Park Lanes. Leading qualifier Lizzi, Sandusky, Ohio took home the $39,000 first prize and a Bayline sport boat, motor and trailer package (valued at $8,000) from Brunswick for his first PBA title, which also qualified him for the 1993 Firestone Tournament of Champions. Lizzi opened with a triple, spare and four-bagger, while Monacelli suffered back-to-back opens in the fifth and sixth frames, from which he never recovered. Monacelli earned $20,000 as runnerup. The PBA's Tour's final ESPN televised finals of the year started with non-winner Mike Edwards knocking off Steve Jaros of nearby Bolingbrook, Ill., 201-129. Jaros now claims the dubious distinction of having posted the lowest game in PBA televised competition. Monacelli then stepped in and defeated Edwards and seconded seeded Eric Forkel.
