Leading qualifier Parker Bohn III earned his sixth PBA title (all of them coming from the top-seeded position) at Bowl El Paso, defeating PBA rookie Derek Williams, 247-212, for the $20,000 first prize. Bohn, Freehold, N.J., tallied eight strikes in the championship game, while Williams, Groves, Texas, opened in his first frame and again in the sixth frame, when he trailed by 54 pins, and never threatened. Williams collected $10,500 as runnerup. The third-seeded Williams bowled impressively in two earlier games, first defeating fellow Texan Ron Williams of Fort Worth (no relation), 217-208, and then defending champion Ray Edwards, 246-203. The ABC Sports telecast began with Ron Williams topping Kelly Coffman, 201-190. Ron Williams could have turned back Derek Williams with a double in the 10th frame, but after collecting the first strike, a solid 10-pin spelled his $5,500 fourth-place payday. Edwards made $7,000 for third and Coffman, Topeka, Kan., took home $4,500 for fifth place.
