Citing this tournament as "the greatest of my life," Brian Voss officially became PBA's seventh millionaire via his 225-209 victory over leading qualifier Harry Sullins in the $130,000 Paula Carter's Homestead Classic at Paula Carter's Pro Bowl. Voss, of nearby Boca Raton, Fla., earned his 12th PBA title, and the $20,000 first-place check pushed his 10-year career earnings to $1,006,308. Voss vaulted to victory from the fourth-seeded position, which was the third time among his 12 wins he accomplished a four-game sweep. With his $10,500 payday Sullins gained the PBA Tour's earnings lead for the year and finished among the final five for a third time. Sullins opened the championship game with a strike, but then his ball sailed wide right of the 3-pin, which allowed Voss an opening to gain the lead. Sullins came back with a triple and then opened again in the sixth, before closing with a double, spare, double and seven count. Voss had avoided an open eight frame by converting the 2-7 "baby split" and after striking in his ninth, faced a "must" first strike in the 10th to clinch. He doubled. In the afternoon's first game, Voss defeated three-time '92 finalist Dave Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., 255-207. Voss then vetoed PBA President Marc McDowell, Madison, Wis., 211-207. McDowell appeared poised to stop Voss's momentum, but then opened in his 10th frame while Voss closed with a four-bagger. In the semifinal game, Voss became just the second player In 14 games of the championship round to halt Danny Wiseman, Baltimore, 225-218 (Del Ballard Jr. Is the other). Wiseman earned $7,000 for third place, McDowell $5,500 for fourth and Ferraro $4,500. Voss should have known good things were to be expected when he started the week with a 210-155 pasting of Mike Aulby in the fourth KOOL "Shootout."
