"The Legend" continues to grow, as Harry Sullins collected his fourth PBA crown in the $175,000 Showboat Invitational at Showboat Bowling Center. Sullins, Detroit, upset leading qualifier Bob Vespi, Plantation, Fla., 175-150, for the $35,000 first prize, largest of his career. Both finalists in the championship match opened with doubles and Sullins doubled again (never to strike again in the game) in his fourth and fifth frames. Meanwhile, Vespi, the third-place finisher among the 1991 PBA Rookie of the Year candidates, was accumulating bizarre split leaves (four total), yet was never completely out of contention for the title until the final two frames. The ABC Sports championship round began with non-winner Philip Ringener, Big Spring, Texas, turning back fourth-seeded Chris Warren of Dallas, 204-168. Ringener continued against another non-winner, Mark Bowers, Aberdeen, Md., 206-157, before running into Sullins, who stopped his momentum, 193-170.
