Dave Ferraro became the only two-time winner of the $150,000 Bud Light Touring Players Championship at Taylor Lanes. Third-seeded Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., edged leading qualifier Roger Bowker, 213-212, to grab the $27,000 first prize and his sixth PBA title. The win also was Ferraro's first since claiming the 1990 Firestone Tournament of Champions, and during his three game march he collected his first victories in the championship round in 10 previous qualifications among the final five. Bowker, Ocala, Fla., opened with five strikes, while Ferraro doubled, spared twice and then added another double in his eighth and ninth frames. Bowker opened back-to-back in the seventh and eighth frames, including a missed 10-pin when he lost his balance at the foul line. After Ferraro closed with a spare and nine-count, Bowker then needed a spare and strike to tie and force a roll-off for the championship, but left a 9-pin on his last ball. In the first game of the NBC-TV Fall Tour-concluding telecast, Walter Ray Williams Jr. defeated Tony Westlake, Edmond, Okla., 220-204. Ferraro then entered and disposed of Williams, 234-224, and four-time 1991 champion David Ozio, 235-190, to gain his place opposite Bowker.
