Baltimore's Danny Wiseman gained the PBA's all-time winning percentage in TV finals competition by winning four games en route to his fourth PBA title in the $150,000 Toyota Classic at Tropicana Lanes. Fifth-seeded Wiseman turned back leading qualifier John Mazza, Mt. Clemens, Mich., 204-200, for the $27,000 first prize and denied Mazza his fourth win of the year. The championship game was close throughout, with Mazza assuming an early lead when Wiseman opened in the third frame. Wiseman tripled mid-game to grab the lead, and protected his margin to clinch the title when Mazza failed to carry 7-pin leaves in his ninth and 10th frames. In the opening game of the NBC Sports-televised finals, Wiseman defeated Mark Williams, Beaumont, Texas, 215-206. He then sidelined good friend Richard Wolfe of Arlington, Va., 235-224, and Joe Firpo, Lake Worth, Fla., in the semi-final game, 193-173. Mazza earned $14,000 as runnerup, Firpo collected $8,000 for third, Wolfe $6,000 for fourth place and Williams $5,000.
