Fifth-seeded Danny Wiseman of Baltimore averaged 234 in winning his third PBA title in the $125,000 Seattle Open at Skyway Park Bowl. Wiseman defeated four opponents, including leading qualifier Dave Ferraro, 203-174, for the $18,000 first prize and ran his record in championship finals competition to 8-1. Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., opened in his first frame of the title game, while Wiseman struck, spared and tripled to open a 27-pin lead through five frames. Ferraro was seeking his sixth PBA championship and first victory in the championship round since winning the 1990 Firestone Tournament of Champions. Since then, Ferraro's streak on TV has run to 0-7. In the opening game of the ABC Sports-televised championship, Wiseman defeated Curtis Odom, Winston-Salem, N.C., 256-215. Wiseman then avenged himself against Del Ballard Jr., who is the only player to have defeated him in a television finals match, at this year's Leisure's Long Island Open. Wiseman edged Ballard, Richardson, Texas, 219-215, who was seeking a third consecutive title and fourth of the year, but he fell short when he was unable to strike on his first shot of the 10th frame. In the semifinal game, Wiseman defeated first-time finalist Eric Forkel, Granada Hills, Calif., 259-211, and his phenomenal success on the right-hand lane continued, where he struck on 20 of 22 opportunities.
