Billy Young Wins Tums Classic

Absent from the winner's circle since 1985, Billy Young re-qualified for the Firestone Tournament of Champions after capturing the inaugural $160,000 Turns Classic at Bradley Bowl. Young, Oklahoma City, turned back Dave D'Entremont, Parma, Ohio, 203-201, for the $30,000 first prize.

Young opened in his first two frames and trailed by 32 pins in the fourth frame, before switching balls and launching his comeback with a four-bagger starting in the sixth frame. Young's strike in the eighth frame was a crossover carry, while third-seeded D'Entremont had a critical open frame when he could not convert the 210 split in his eighth.

In the first game of the ABC Sports televised finals, Joe Salvemini ousted defending champion Mike Aulby of Indianapolis, 176-170. D'Entremont then defeated Salvemini, Oklahoma City, 209-170, and second-seeded Dave Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., 269-193.
