Roger Bowker visited the winner's circle for the second time in his career as a professional bowler, with both victories coming from his position as the tournament's leading qualifier. Bowker, Ocala, Fla., defeated Dave Husted, 235-192, to win the Inaugural $150,000 Chevy Truck Classic and the $27,000 first prize at Marcel's Olympic Bowl. Husted, Milwaukie, Ore., had advanced past three preliminary opponents, but couldn't extend his momentum in the championship game and fell short of earning his eighth PBA title. He earned $14,000 as runnerup. Bowker opened with a strike, but trailed Husted after five frames when he failed to convert the 8-10 split. He then re-grouped and closed with a seven-bagger, while Husted's carry deserted him and he struggled down the homestretch. In the opening game, Husted topped local favorite Brad Kiszewski of Buffalo, 208-190. Husted then sidelined first-time championship round finalist Mark Bowers, Aberdeen, Md., 256-170, and Seattle's Hugh Miller in the semifinal game, 246-164.
