Pete Weber took advantage of a lucky feeling and a 14-month wait to add to his "unlucky 13th" title by turning back Ron Williams, 257-251, in the $130,000 LaMode Classic. The crowd at Red Carpet Lanes was thrilled to witness four closely contested matches and vocalized their support of Weber, who pocketed the $20,000 first prize. Williams, Fort Worth, Texas, opened with a triple, while Weber started with two spares and a six-bagger. Weber sat with his 257, but Williams could determine their fates by doubling in the 10th frame. He collected the first strike, but couldn't bring home the clincher to softie for the $10,500 second-place check. The championship finals started with Dave Husted topping Billy Hall of Marion, Ohio, 232-228. Williams then entered and sidelined Husted, Milwaukie, Ore., 199-195. In the semifinal game, Williams came from behind to oust 1989 LaMode Classic runner-up Dave Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., 192-191.
