Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela and Tish Johnson of Panorama City, Calif., joined forces to earn the $40,000 winner's share of the inaugural $200,000 Cambridge Mixed Doubles at Sally's Grand Lanes. The victory was the second straight for the teammates, each having won the last singles event they bowled. For Monacelli, it was his fourth Professional Bowlers Association title of the year and the third Ladies Professional Bowlers Tour crown of 1989 for Johnson. The pair failed 17,796 pins for their 40 games. That pinfall Includes bonus pins for match game wins. Mark Baker of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Nikki Glanullas of Vallejo, Calif., rallied during the last round, but felled 17,619 pins and finished in second place 177 pins back. They were consoled with $11,000 each. Parker Bohn III of Freehold, N.J., and Lisa Wagner of Palmetto, Fla., grabbed the No. 3 spot and split a check for $16,000. Their pinfall was 17,579. In addition to the pairing of the PBA and LPBT's top 24 players in the mixed doubles, the Bowling Proprietors'Association of America (BPAA) administered a lucrative four-game Pro-Am competition that preceded the tournament proper. The $100,000 event featured 74 national qualifiers, who earned expense-paid trips to Reno, courtesy of Cambridge Cigarettes, after qualifying through state and regional levels in participating BPAA centers. Janice Sanchez of Oklahoma won the Women's Division and Texas' Sean Carter came away the Mon's victor, with each pocketing $10,000 first prizes. 40 GAMES
