There can be no further speculation as to Amleto Monacelli's claim to stardom on the PBA Tour following his triumph in the $175,000 Showboat Invitational. Venezuela's Monacelli earned the $33,000 first prize by topping leading qualifier Mark Roth, 216-189, completely altering his style of play during his three championship round games. The popular Monacelli is known for his wide-bending strike ball and unorthodox delivery, but he tossed "pocket rockets" straight up lanes 59 and 60 at Showboat Bowling Center during the championship round. Roth, Spring Lake Heights, N.J., matched Monacelli with an opening strike, two spares and a double through the fifth frame. Monacelli added another strike in his sixth frame and Roth spared twice and then left the 2-10 split in his eighth from which he never recovered.
