Del Warren and Joe Firpo, a pair of longtime bowling buddies from Lake Worth, Fla., teemed to win the $140,000 Showboat PBA Doubles Classic here and they did It the way many people In Las Vegas do . . . the hard way. In the championship game of the nationally televised finals on ESPN, they defeated top qualifiers Brian Voss, Tacoma, Wash., and Les Zikes, Palatine, Ill., in a 214-207 cliffhanger after ousting sentimental favorites Rick Minier, Vancouver, Wash., and Rick Jones, Spokane, Wash., 218-168. That game was the only blowout of the night, however, as a large crowd at the spacious Showboat Bowling Center watched the Minier/Jones duo first eliminate a pair of PBA National Champions, Randy Pederson, Santa Maria, Calif., and Tom Crites, Tampa, Fla., 228-197, end then win a 213-212 thriller from an eastern combination of Joe Berardi Brooklyn, N.Y., and Dave Ferraro, Kingston, N.
