Tears of joy flowed from the eyes of Mary Ellen Handley as her husband Bob struck in the 10th frame to lock up the $23,000 winner's share in the $140,000 Greater Hartford Open. Handley, Pompano Beach, Fla. opened with three strikes against 19-year-old Jimmy Keeth and led the match from start to finish for a 247-201 winNow with four Professional Bowlers Association titles, the stop in Windsor Locks was Handley's last chance to get into the 1987 Firestone and he battled his nerves throughout the match. Several times Handley covered his face with a towel to help him concentrate and slow his racing heart. Keeth, West Palm Beach, Fla., earned the right to bowl Handley by knocking off Marshall Holman, 210-203, in the semifinal match when Holman left a 4-6-7 split on a crucial 10th frame shot. Holman had worked his way to the match with Keeth by eliminating Tom Baker, a seven-time champion from Buffalo, N.Y., 248-226In the first match of the nationally televised championship round, Baker had knocked off Kent Wagner, Palmetto, Fla., 220-199.
